Menopause Personal Story: Yogarama student in her mid-50's.
“If only I listened to my body 10 years ago and given myself permission to accept what was going on. In my mid to late 40’s. I tried to do the same stuff as always but I felt sluggish in the morning and it took a long time to get me motivated and productive. I was truly unhappy, always feeling teary and my period were on and off - so irregular .
Then in my early 50’s, the night sweats began and I would wake up 2am and could not sleep until the heat settled. I was feeling moody, angry and even depressed. I needed to have something to blame for this & I’d think what is wrong with my husband, why has he made me so upset and depressed. There must be something wrong with my marriage and the spiralling thoughts kept going. I suffered in silence like this for a long time.
After a few years of suffering, I chose to seek intervention with western medicine, HRT. Even though I had a family history of breast cancer, I was assured by my doctor that HRT was safe and low risk for me and it would calm the hot flushes and allow me sleep through the night. What a relief !.
Nowadays I am not taking HRT and my moods are ok, not nearly as erratic & I sleep though the night. Importantly, I've started my yoga journey now.
