If you are that one in five person that is struggling with a mental health issue, meditation and yoga along with a combination of a healthy diet, regular exercise and open conversation with a support person, may help to keep on top of the issue.
At Wylie’s Baths on World Mental Health Day, 10 October the yoga and pilates team held a Hat Day class to raise awareness of mental illness and to help reduce the stigma associated with mental disorders. Yogarama and Core Dynamics also donated all class proceedings to support Hat Day for mental health research.
It was wonderful to see our national broadcaster, the ABC, raise awareness of mental illness through their Mental As campaign during mental health week (5-12 October). You may have seen or heard one of many discussions or documentaries about mental illness on ABC TV and Radio.
As we move in to the sunny summer months, join my Hatha flow yoga class closing with gentle meditation, followed by a refreshing dip at Wylie’s Baths as an ideal natural therapy for those of us touched by mental health month and keen to maintain our own mental and physical health.
It is good to know that yoga therapy classes for anxiety and depression is offered in Australia through the Yoga Foundation www.theyogafoundation.org.au - so please contact them if you want to know more is .
MENTAL HEALTH TIP:
A daily diet of meditation and yoga is a recipe for good mental health. Ideally, 20 minutes of meditation when you wake up and one hour class of yoga will have an impact... Truth is we all have busy lives, so whatever you can fit into your schedule will make a difference..
